Chemistry: Convection and Conduction:

 Convection and Conduction

Convection and Conduction are passing on heat energy.

when they have heat they have energy and they move faster ans faster and pass on energy.

Conduction: energy transfeing through contact
when the object is heated, the particles start moving faster and faster as they gain energy. these particles also try to spread out as the gaps between particles get bigger.

If an object is heated from one end, the particles can transfer heat along, this is CONDUCTON.
2 examples of good conductors of heat:
- stove
-pans

(some objects are good on heat these are called thermal conductor.)

Objects which are bad at passing on heat are called thermal insulators.
2 examples of good insulator of heat:
- red
- jackets

Convectionnon contact energy transfer, usually in liquid
-Hot stuff rises, cold stuff sinks

2 examples of good Convection of heat:
- hot air balloon
- soup in a pan

teabag rockets:
As we light the tea bags, the tea bags become hot there particles spread out and became less dense(light), as it became less dense it went up and when the particles went cold they became more dense(heavy) and compact and began to come down.

Distillation: Chemistry

Distillation:

Separating a solution/mixture using evaporation + condensation.

Distillation: Is the scientific experiment used to show the processes of evaporation and condensation.

Evaporation: Is when a liquid turns into gas, by heating up the liquid.

Condensation: Is when a gas is turned into a liquid, by cooling the gas down.

Experiment/Aim: Separating coke + sugar free coke to see how much sugar is present.

Hypothesis: I think that classic coke will have more sugar than the sugar free or diet coke.

Method:
- Heat up coke - until all liquid is evaporated, trapping the gas in a tube.
- Use ice around test tube to condense the gas.

distilation Result for diet coke:
While the diet coke was heating the liquid inside started to evaporate and transfer the water into the test tube which was inside the beaker with ice inside. The evaporated liquid in the form of gas travelled across the straw into the test tube becoming liquid because there was ice in the beaker which cooled down the gas and the gas condensed into water(liquid). Resulting the sugar was left into the conicle flask.

ICT Semester 1 Reflection

Hey guys, My name is Vanshika and this is a reflection of what I have done in I.C.T for semester 1.

In term one we began with typing.com, a site which we use to practise and improve our typing skills(using it at the start of each lesson for 10 minutes). Then we learnt about how to be safer on the internet through a site called https://beinternetawesome.withgoogle.com/en_us/interland (beinternetawesome). Beinternetawesome taught us about what to do in different situations on the internet(if in a problematic situation). To show our understanding of what we learned through beinternetawesome we made kahoots. Kahoot is a site which allows us to make and play different quizzes on lots of different topics. We learned about how to manage files, how to rename files, save files, as well as how to put them in different places.

WORD

Then we started on ‘Word’, a software. ‘Word’ is a word processor, it allows us to type text, save, and edit it if wanted with lots of helpful tools. In ‘Word’ we can also create or insert pictures. Using ‘Word’, we worked on a few different files. We used  pronto books for the steps and instructions. The tasks we had were to work on different, already completed documents, where we had to do spell checks, headings, copy/pasting as well as search and replace text. After a bit more of file management, we did a bit of drawing, we learned how to create things such as boats, TV’s and flowers(in 'Word' software). Learning the drawing process was a bit interesting because it took a bit longer to have a good drawing but there were a few tricks to finishing faster because of the tools on ‘Word’. As it was Easter we had to obviously do some Easter related tasks. So, for Easter we worked on an Easter recipe, which we were given the instructions and recipe for. Term 1 was nearing an end. We were to make 8 different posters, 4 for each topic. The topics were ‘Kids eat free’ and ‘Disney’.

Term 2 began with pronto and bravo book tasks.

Networking tasks: Bonsai & Goldfish:

Publisher

Afterwards we moved onto another software, ‘Publisher’. ‘Publisher’, is a software mostly for making cards, certificates, etc. The things we worked on ‘Publisher’ were making calendars and certificates. I think ‘Publisher’ is a pretty awesome software, the calendars we worked on turned out to be very beautiful.

Excel

Currently we are using ‘Excel’, which is also a software. ‘Excel’ is a spreadsheet, which is used for calculating, graphs and more. Using ‘Excel’ we worked on basic formulae as well as graphs.

Although I enjoyed most things I learned, my most favourite were making the calendar on ‘Publisher' and using ‘Excel’. I do believe it would have been a great idea to have also learned a bit about tools on Google docs or Google spreadsheets because they are easily accessible in devices as compared to ‘Word’, ‘Publisher’ and ‘Excel’.

I was unable to show more of the work I had done because the computers in school had been updated often, making the work I had done to disappear.

Thanks to Mr.Carter, that I.C.T in Semester one has been a great experience for me.
